On August 27, 2026, shortly before 10:30 p.m., Winnipeg police attended a residence in the 300 block of St. Johns Avenue following a report of a fire.

When officers arrived, they found three victims—a 35-year-old male, a 53-year-old male, and a 31-year-old female—who had sustained life-altering burn injuries.

All three victims were taken to hospital. The 35-year-old male was initially listed in critical condition, while the 53-year-old male and 31-year-old female were in unstable condition. The female victim was later treated and released from hospital, while the 53-year-old male remains hospitalized.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

A 22-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with:

• Three counts of Aggravated Assault
• Three counts of Arson Causing Bodily Harm
• Arson Causing Damage to Property
• Possession of Incendiary Material
• Break and Enter and Commit Arson – Dwelling House

The accused was remanded in custody.

On August 29, 2026, the 35-year-old male victim died as a result of his injuries. He has been identified as 35-year-old Mark Bosadas MARMETO.

Following consultation with Manitoba Justice, additional charges of First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempt to Commit Murder were authorized.

Ismail Abdihakim ALI, 22, has now been charged with First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempt to Commit Murder. He remains in custody.
